A summer night, warm, gentle breezes, a lush, green oasis, refreshing yet pungent cocktails, the light mist of a cool fountain, and lively music to keep you going. The Central Park Conservancy’s Annual Evening in the Garden in Central Park is a peaceful respite away from the heat and hustle and bustle of NYC in the summer, without having to leave the city.
Evening in the Garden in Central Park
The annual event takes place in the Conservatory Garden, on the garden’s pergola beneath a canopy of wisteria overlooking six acres of gorgeous fountains, blooms and lush landscapes. The event celebrates the beauty of Central Park and the mission of the Central Park Conservancy to restore, manage, and enhance Central Park.
Evening in the Garden – Central Park: Who Attends
This year’s event was attended by 700 young philanthropists looking to give back and have a great time. $50,000 was raised from 2016’s event, and the funds will be used to support the restoration and management of Central Park.
Evening in the Garden – Central Park: What to Wear
Evening in the Garden is THE place to see and be seen, so wear your summer’s best! Ladies wear summery dresses and cocktail attire.
While dapper gents don linen pants, button down shirts, and seer sucker suits. Looking fine, gentlemen!
Evening in the Garden – Central Park: The Food
I was expecting your standard cocktail fare at Evening in the Garden, but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of options provided. Delicious food was provided compliments of Ocean Prime, SoomSoom, and The MasalaWala.
Ocean Prime featured Ahi Tuna Tartare, White Truffle Caviar Deviled Eggs and Carrot Cake. It was so good I had to go back for seconds and thirds!
SoomSoom is a vegetarian fast food restaurant that serves delicious, healthy and high quality vegetarian Mediterranean food. I am a huge fan of falafel (and am vegetarian), so these falafel pita sandwiches seriously hit the spot.
Another vegetarian food option was The MasalaWala, with South Asian street-style cuisine. We noshed on samosas and belphuri, a type of chaat made out of puffed rice, vegetables, chick peas and a tangy tamarind sauce. Mango lassis were a great way to combat the spice!

Evening in the Garden – Central Park: The Music
What is a garden party without music? One of the reasons I had so much fun at Evening in the Garden was because of the fantastic live music. High and Mighty Brass Band played throughout the event, combining classic New Orleans Funk and R&B with Afro-Beat and Hip Hop influences.
Evening in the Garden – Central Park: The Location
Most New Yorkers (and visitors) have been to Central Park, but far fewer have been to one of New York’s most exclusive venues, the Conservatory Garden, located inside Central Park at Fifth Avenue and East 105th Street.
The tips of skyscrapers peek out from the lush greenery, just to remind you that you are, in fact, still in Manhattan.
Evening in the Garden – Central Park: The Price
It pays to get your tickets early. General tickets are $175 at the door, but I snagged mine at the beginning of May and paid only $100. Plus, this year, if you attended Evening in the Garden, you received $100 off membership to The Greensward Circle.
Doesn’t this look like fun?! It was! If you’re thinking about attending Evening in the Garden next year, keep in mind that Greensward Circle members receive complimentary admission plus a guest. See you next year!
