It’s no secret that the world’s best chocolate comes from Europe. But which specific country has the best? We have the answer!
Who Has the Best Belgian Chocolate?
Some chocolate lovers claim allegiance to Lindt of Switzerland, while others enjoy Cadbury of England the most. Luckily for us, we were given the opportunity to sample the goods from a high-end chocolatier called Planete Chocolat of Belgium. We’re now convinced that the best chocolate comes from Belgium, and that the best Belgian chocolate comes from Planete Chocolat!
Since we love to travel, we decided to try one of Planete Chocolat’s special boxes called “A Journey Through the World of Flavors”. It features chocolates made with cocoa beans sourced from various parts of the world, including Uganda, Ecuador, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Costa Rica, Vanuatu, Venezuela, Grenada and Congo. I wasn’t even aware that all of these countries produced cocoa beans.
The presentation and packaging was top-notch. The box of chocolates arrived with cold packs in the box to ensure they didn’t melt in the summer heat.
The box came in this cute velveteen bag that can be reused for taking travel items on trips, or even for taking your lunch to work!
The team at Planete Chocolat sent me this super sweet note along with the chocolates. Personal touches really do make such a difference!
The box itself was really beautiful with shiny gold accents. I can totally see myself giving this as a birthday or engagement party gift.
This particular box of chocolates made its own journey around New York City. First I shared it with family visiting from Italy. Since we’e already established that the best chocolate comes from Europe, who better to taste test it than some actual Europeans?
My first test subject was Valentina, who was super excited about the job at hand.
Each chocolate has its own specific pattern imprinted on the bar so that you know what you’re eating. Some are milk chocolate, some are white, and — my favorite — several different percentages of dark chocolate. The darkest comes from Uganda at 80%, which is strong cocoa with a subtle roasted aroma. So much yum!
Valentina is smiling, but she’s really thinking “Hurry up and take the picture already so I can eat!”
And in she goes for the kill. White chocolate is not my first choice, so I’m happy that Valentina loves it. She opted for the Kumquat flavored white.
Next up is cute little Elisa. She has a crazy sweet tooth so I had to be a little faster when I took her picture. No hesitating!
And…it’s a thumbs up from Elisa! She loves the milk chocolate from Venezuela, and even decides to share it with her mom.
There’s a map included in each box that identifies each type and flavor of chocolate, from Caramel Mint, to Violet, to Cinnamon.
After the first tasting, I knew I didn’t want Ann to miss out on the goods. We happened to be going on a rosé boat cruise around Manhattan the next day, and we thought it would be the perfect photo op with our Planete Chocolat chocolates!
Ann was as big a fan as I was – just look at that smile!
As the final part of the chocolate journey, Ann decided to have her own chocolate tasting at home, complete with coffee! If you haven’t tried this combo yet, we highly recommend it.
